TIMEFRAME expected from 12/20/2019, 12:00 AM until 1/10/2020, 11:59 PM (America/Guayaquil). COUNTRY/REGION Ecuador

On Monday, December 16, the Canadian government issued travel warnings for various parts of Ecuador.

The advisory states that travelers should avoid non-essential travel to the northern provinces of Esmeraldas and Sucumbios due to violent crime.

It also states that all travel within a 20 km (12.4 mi) range of the border area with Colombia should be avoided due to the presence of drug traffickers and criminal organizations. All travel to the minefields near the southern portion of the border with Peru should also be avoided due to the presence of landmines and unmarked minefields. This includes Tiwinza in the province of Morona-Santiago, El Pangui, Nangaritza, and Palanda, in the province of Zamora-Chinchip.

Individuals in Ecuador are advised to remain vigilant at all times, especially in areas deemed risky by governments, monitor the situation and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
