Croatia is expected to hold a presidential runoff election on Sunday, January 5, after no candidate won an outright majority in a first round of voting on Sunday, December 22. Former prime minister Zoran Milanović garnered 30 percent of the votes, while incumbent Kolinda Grabar Kitarović came in second with nearly 27 percent. According to the State Election Commission, 51 percent of the nearly four million registered voters turned out for the election.

Political rallies and protests are possible in the lead up to the elections and following the result of the vote; a heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be anticipated near all such demonstrations.

Individuals in Croatia are advised to avoid public demonstrations as a precaution, refrain from discussing political subjects in public or on social media, and anticipate protests, rallies, a heightened security presence, and localized disruptions.
