Media sources have reported ongoing anti-government protests in Algiers on Tuesday, December 31. Groups have gathered at Martyr's Square as of the afternoon (local time) on President Minister Tebboune's 13th day in office.
Associated protests are possible in other urban centers across the country. A heightened security presence and associated disruptions (e.g. transportation, commercial, internet service) are likely during any protest. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
Protests to denounce the current political system have continued despite the election of Abdelmadjid Tebboune on December 12.
Individuals in Algiers are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate a heightened security presence and localized disruptions to business and transportation around protest sites.
