Clashes broke out between protesters and security forces in Conakry on Thursday, January 9, amid an indefinite nationwide teachers' strike called by the teachers' labor union SLECG. Police forces reportedly opened fire using live ammunitions, killing one in the Wanindara area and injuring another in the vicinity of Cosa.

Further related protests are possible over the coming days and weeks. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.
