Opposition parties call from nationwide protests over the biometric registration January 11 - January 28; avoid all gatherings

Several opposition parties have formed the Inter-Party Resistance Against the New Voter Register (IPRAN), and marched on Saturday, January 11, in Tamale (Northern Region) to protest the proposed biometric registration ahead of the December 2020 general elections. Further nationwide demonstrations have been called through Tuesday, January 28. Protests will notably be held in Kumasi (Ashanti region) and the capital Accra on Tuesday, January 21, and Tuesday, January 28, respectively.

A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are to be expected near any demonstration site. 


Individuals in Ghana are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, monitor developments to the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
