As of Tuesday, January 14, thick smog has been reported in northern provinces for the ninth consecutive day. The Thai Pollution Control Department (PCD) recorded an unsafe level of PM2.5 fine dust concentration over 50 micrograms per cubic meters for the Mae Sai (Chiang Rai), Muang (Chiang Mai), Muang, Mae Mo (Lampang), Muang (Lamphun), Muang (Phrae), and Muang (Phayao) districts.

In Bangkok, the PCD reported an unsafe level of PM2.5 fine dust concentration up to 58 micrograms per cubic meters in the Klong San, Bang Khlaem, Wang Thonglang, Phra Nakhon, Klong Toey, Lak Si, Bang Khen, and Bung Kum districts of the capital.

The situation is likely to continue over the coming days.


A concentration of PM2.5 fine dust above 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air is considered unsafe.


Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor the situation, watch for updates and health advisories issued by the Pollution Control Department (PCD), limit outdoor activities until the situation normalize or wear N95 rated masks as a protection. Children and those with chronic respiratory illnesses should exercise increased caution. Individuals are advised to seek medical attention if experiencing breathing difficulties or other health concerns.
