Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced that the Russian government, composed of the prime minister, deputy prime ministers, and federal ministers, would resign on Wednesday, January 15. The move is reportedly to make way for constitutional reforms that President Vladimir Putin announced in a speech earlier on Wednesday, which will give parliament, rather than the president, the power to appoint the prime minister and cabinet. Putin offered the position of PM to the head of the Russian tax service, Mikhail Mishustin, hours after Medvedev's resignation.

Individuals in Russia are advised to monitor the situation, avoid discussing sensitive political topics in public or online, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
