Some 150-200 Canadian troops are being sent to assist in blizzard recovery operations in Newfoundland and Labrador province as of Sunday, January 19. Significant transportation disruptions have been reported in affected areas, with many major roads deemed impassable. Notably, St. John's received up to 76 cm (30 in) of snow in the recent storm, accompanied by wind gusts of up to 130 kph (81 mph); a state of emergency remains in effect in the area as of Sunday night (local time).

Additional snowfall of 10-15 cm (4-6 in) and wind gusts of up to 80 kph (50 mph) are forecast for much of Newfoundland from Sunday night into Monday morning (local time), January 20. Lingering disruptions to transportation and business are to be expected across Newfoundland over the coming hours and days.  


Individuals in Newfoundland and Labrador province are advised to monitor local weather reports, prepare for lingering transportation disruptions, keep battery-operated devices fully charged whenever possible, be cautious when driving or crossing streets if traffic signals are not functioning, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
