Authorities reportedly impose a curfew in Chingola following riots on January 19; follow all instructions

According to media reports, authorities imposed an indefinite curfew in Chingola (Copperbelt province) on Sunday, January 19, following recent episodes of riots triggered by suspected ritual killings. As such, bars in the area are reportedly expected to close at 20:00 (local time) and everyone found outdoors after 20:00 will be arrested.

An increased security presence is expected in the area in the near term. Further acts of violence are possible.  


Individuals in Chingola are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and riots, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
