Ireland News Alert

Unofficial Independence Day demonstration scheduled in Dublin January 21; heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions expected

TIMEFRAME expected from 1/21/2020, 12:00 AM until 1/21/2020, 11:59 PM (Europe/Dublin). COUNTRY/REGION Ireland

A civil society group has called for a demonstration on Tuesday, January 21, to celebrate Ireland's Independence Day, though not officially recognised by the government. Participants plan to gather from 12:00 to 14:00 (local time) in front the Mansion House.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be anticipated near the demonstration site.

The Declaration of Independence Day Bill, which has passed the first stage in the Senate, would declare January 21, as Ireland's Independence Day, starting on  2021.

Individuals in Ireland, notably Dublin are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, monitor developments, anticipate transportation and business disruptions near protest sites, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
