Alicante-Elche airport (ALC) reopened at 05:00 (local time) on Tuesday, January 21, after being closed on Sunday, January 19, due to safety risks posed by the passage of Winter Storm Gloria. Flights at the airport are reportedly operating normally as of Tuesday afternoon, although residual flight disruptions are possible over the coming hours.

On Sunday, January 19, the Aemet national weather agency issued a red alert for provinces across the country as Winter Storm Gloria was expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and heavy snowfall. The alert will remain in effect in Teruel (Aragon) through Tuesday, before being reduced to an orange alert on Wednesday, January 22, when weather is expected to improve across the country. Winter Storm Gloria has left four people dead in eastern Spain as of Tuesday.

Individuals in Spain are advised to keep abreast of local weather conditions and forecasts, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.

Individuals flying via ALC are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate residual flight disruptions, and confirm flight reservations prior to leaving for the airport.
