As of Thursday, January 23, at least 13 people have died in the powerful winds, large waves, and heavy rain that Storm Gloria brought across Spain in recent days. Infrastructure damage, including damaged railway lines and collapsed bridges, has been reported nationwide. In northeast Spain, hundreds of thousands were left without power following heavy snowfall.

According to the national weather authority, the storm has begun to recede as of Thursday; however, hundreds of roads and schools nationwide remained closed.

Associated disruptions, including transportation disruptions, infrastructure damages, and power outages, are likely in the affected areas over the coming days.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
