Event

Gunmen opened fire on an amusement arcade in Uruapan (Michoacán state) on Monday, February 3, killing at least nine people. The gunmen, suspected to be part of the Jalisco New Generation cartel, attacked the arcade at approximately 15:00 (local time) on Monday. Investigations into the attack are ongoing as of Tuesday, February 4.

A heightened security presence is expected in the vicinity of the incident over the coming days. Similar attacks are possible in Michoacán State over the near term.

Individuals present in Michoacán state are advised to monitor developments to the situation and adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

Due to extreme levels of violence linked to the presence of various armed groups, some Western governments advise against travel to various parts of the country, notably the states of Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, Sinaloa, and Tamaulipas, as well as the northeastern border with the US.
