Nigeria: Airlines reroute flights from Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) February 14

Nigeria News Alert

Several airlines are rerouting flights away from Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) due to poor visibility as of February 14; confirm travel itineraries

TIMEFRAME expected from 2/14/2020, 12:00 AM until 2/15/2020, 11:59 PM (Africa/Lagos). COUNTRY/REGION Lagos, Lagos

Several international airlines are rerouting or suspending flights to Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) as of Friday, February 14, due to landing difficulties. The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Aviation confirmed on Friday that LOS was experiencing issues replacing its Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), as well as suffering from poor weather conditions. An Emirates flight was diverted to Accra (Ghana) on Thursday, February 13, leaving more than 1000 Nigeria-bound passengers stranded, before the airline completely suspended flights to LOS. British Airways representatives also said that the airline will divert flights to Accra, while some airlines such as Qatar Airlines have applied to divert flights to Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (ABV).

Further flight disruptions, including diversions and cancelations, are anticipated in the coming weeks and months while LOS replaces its ILS and continues to experience poor weather conditions.

Individuals flying via LOS are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate flight disruptions including diversions and cancelations, confirm flight reservations, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
