North Korea fired two suspected short-range missiles from around Wonsan into the Sea of Japan on Monday, March 2, according to South Korean officials. Japan stated that no projectile landed in its territory or exclusive economic zone and that no material damages were reported. The North Korean launches were the first recorded in months and come amid the global coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, which state media has claimed is an issue of consequence for "national existence."

Similar North Korean missile launches are possible over the near term.
