Police officers arrested a man who took over 30 people hostage in the Virra Mall in Greenhills (San Juan), near Manila, on Monday, March 2. The suspect, identified as a former security guard, released the hostages safely after holding them for over ten hours. He was then arrested after being allowed to talk to a small group of journalists. According to officials, another mall security guard was shot during the incident but is in a stable condition and recovering at a nearby hospital.

A heightened security presence is possible in the mall through Tuesday, March 3.
