On Tuesday, March 17, two rockets attack was reported at Basmaya Camp, south of Baghdad. While casualties have not been confirmed, Spanish and NATO forces are based there as part of the US- led coalition against ISIS. The missiles were fired from agricultural land near the Nahrawan Brick Factories. More details about the attack will be reported later, according to Iraq's Security Media Cell.

The attack coincides with President Barham Salih's deadline to name a candidate for prime minister role.

This is the third such attack on foreign military bases in Iraq, which have generated a response from the American military on Friday, March 13, leaving six civilian casualties.

Further such attacks targeting US and coalition troops remain possible in the coming hours and days.

On March 11, approximately 18 rockets were fired into the Al-Taji airbase, killing two Americans and one British national. Another 11 people were wounded in the attack. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the strike.

Individuals in Iraq are advised to keep abreast of the situation, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

The security environment in Iraq remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas with proper security protocols in place, other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to all travel.
