Weather officials issue weather warnings for strong winds in coastal areas on April 20; associated transportation disruptions expected

The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) forecast strong winds to affect most of the country's coastal areas on Monday, April 20. A red weather warning (highest on a four-tier scale) will remain in place until 23:59 (local time) on Monday in the Kvarner Gulf and the Velebit channel where wind gusts of up to 130 kph (81 mph) are expected. Additional orange warnings (second highest on a four-tier scale) will be in effect until 23:59 on Monday in the West Istrian coast and the Rijeka region. The inclement weather could potentially persist throughout Tuesday, April 21.

Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible over the coming hours.


Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports and prepare for transportation disruptions (including road closures).
