Ugandan authorities deploy additional security forces in Agago district to stem increased acts of banditry April 22; adhere to government directives

The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) deployed an additional 210 personnel to Agago district on Wednesday, April 22. According to media sources, the forces were deployed to enhance security amid a recent rise in cattle rustling activity by suspected bandits from the Karamoja sub-region and South Sudan. The additional contingent of UPDF personnel will assist the 600-strong Local Defence Units (LDU) currently in the region to patrol the porous border with the Karamoja sub-region.

Individuals in the border areas of Agago district and Karamoja sub-region are advised to monitor the situation, remain vigilant for signs of intercommunal unrest, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
