Protests occurred in Mogadishu on Saturday, April 25, following reports that a police officer killed two civilians during the enforcement of coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-related restrictions. Hundreds of protesters marched and chanted slogans against President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, with some blocking the main junction in the Bondhere area of the city, as well as Juba junction. Reports suggest that police were deployed to disperse the gatherings. According to local sources, protesters departed following an intervention by Mogadishu's mayor. Authorities have stated that the officer responsible for the shootings, which occurred during the evening (local time) of Friday, April 24, has been detained.

Further demonstrations are possible in Mogadishu over the coming days. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of all protests.
