The National Hydrometeorological Forecast Centre warned that extremely high temperatures are forecast in Vietnam's northern and central regions, including Hanoi, from Thursday, May 7. Temperatures are expected to reach up to more than 40°C (104°F) and as high as 45°C (113°F). According to authorities, the country expects to record its highest temperatures in 2020 due to global warming.
Individuals in Vietnam are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid strenuous activities or spending time outdoors, particularly during midday, wear loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water and avoid dehydrating liquids, such as alcoholic, sugary, or caffeinated drinks, and seek immediate medical attention if exhibiting symptoms of heat stroke, such as nausea, confusion, headache, rapid and strong pulse, and dry skin.
