Security forces killed two Abu Sayyaf-linked militants during an operation in Tandubas municipality (Tawi-Tawi province) on Sunday, May 3. An exchange of fire occurred when security forces raided a safehouse used by the militants in the vicinity of Barangay Taruk. Other members of the group fled the scene following the firefight. The militants are believed to be members of a local kidnap-for-ransom group.

Abu Sayyaf is an Islamic State (IS)-affiliated jihadist militant group primarily operating in the southern Philippines. It is notorious for kidnapping people for ransom, especially in southwestern Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago.
