Several protests were reported across Israel on Wednesday, May 6, to call attention to gender-based violence which has increased under the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) lockdown measures. Reports indicate that five women were killed in the seven weeks that the COVID-19 measures have beenin effect, all due to domestic violence incidents. Protests took place in Be'er Sheva, Haifa, Herzliya, Holon, Jerusalem, Lod, Kiryat Shmona, Mateh Yehuda, Ra'anana, Rehovot, Rishon Letzion, and Tel Aviv.
Participants threatened to continue protesting over the coming days, though it was not immediately clear on which days and in which cities. Should protests continue, a heightened security presence is to be expected in the vicinity of all protests.
Individuals in Tel Aviv are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate a heightened security presence, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
