A widespread power outage was reported across Kenya at approximately 05:49 (local time) on Saturday morning, May 9, due to a technical fault on a high voltage power line. As of Saturday evening, power has been restored to Nairobi and most other parts of the country. Uganda suffered similar outages on Saturday as the two East African nations have interconnected power grids.
Further outages are possible over the near term.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor the situation, keep battery-operated devices fully charged whenever possible, and to be cautious when driving or crossing streets if traffic signals are not functioning.
