Online sources have reported on Monday, May 11, that the Tunisian Army foiled a terror attack plot in Kasserine (west-central) on Sunday, May 10. Military and security forces reportedly collaborated on the effort and were able to confiscate improvised explosive device (IED) material and explosives. The materials were discovered in a hideout.
Islamist militants are active in some provinces of Tunisia, particularly in mountainous areas in the west of the country (e.g. Kasserine province) and southern desert areas along the border with Libya (e.g. Tataouine and Medenine provinces).
Individuals in Tunisia are advised to remain vigilant due to the continuing terror threat, adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities, and report any suspicious objects or behavior.
Certain Western governments advise against travel to the south of the country (i.e. regions on the borders with Algeria and Libya) due to the presence of armed groups.
