TIMEFRAME expected from 5/13/2020, 12:00 AM until 5/16/2020, 11:59 PM (Africa/Nairobi). COUNTRY/REGION Nairobi

Event

On Wednesday, May 13, police shot and killed four suspected gang members in the Komarock neighborhood of Nairobi after the group defied orders to surrender following a pursuit. One police officer was also shot during the incident and remains in critical condition. An increase in criminal activity has been reported in Nairobi amid curfew orders during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected in the Komarock neighborhood over the coming hours.

Advice

Individuals in Kenya, particularly in the abovementioned area, are advised to remain vigilant, to follow instructions issued by local authorities, and take security precautions (e.g. keep signs of wealth concealed, drive with doors locked and windows rolled up, avoid walking alone, avoid traveling in isolated urban areas at night, etc.). As criminals are often armed, do not attempt to resist would-be attackers or thieves and give up all demanded objects to avoid escalating the situation.
