Improvised explosive device (IED) detonations wound one civilian in Kabul’s PD4 area on May 16; further attacks possible over the near term

Dual improvised explosive device (IED) detonations have been reported in Kabul's PD4 on Saturday morning (local time), May 16. An initial magnetic device was attached to an ANDSF vehicle and detonated in the Taimani area of the capital. Following the initial explosion, at least one additional device has also detonated in the area, a tactic often used to target those responding to the initial incident. At least one civilian was wounded in the explosions.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the affected area over the coming hours.  


Individuals in Kabul are advised to avoid the affected area, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
