At least 24 people were killed in a road accident in the Auraiya district (Uttar Pradesh state), on Saturday, May 16. According to reports from survivors, the accident happened when a truck carrying migrants returning home struck another that was parked alongside the road.

Road travel across the country can be dangerous. Rates of traffic accidents and deaths are high due to poorly maintained vehicles, low driving standards, and poor road and emergency infrastructure.
