Local police arrest 19 protesters in London during a demonstration against COVID-19 restrictions on May 16

Local police arrested at least 19 protesters on Saturday, May 16, in London for violating coronavirus disease (COVID-19) social distancing measures. A group of individuals gathered in Hyde Park to demonstrate against the government's response to COVID-19 and the restrictions imposed. Local police were deployed to the demonstration and attempted to disperse the protesters who refused to leave; as a result, 19 individuals were arrested and a further ten people were issued fixed penalty notices. Large public gatherings remain prohibited amid the COVID-19 restrictions in place in the United Kingdom.

Further associated demonstrations cannot be ruled out in the near term.
