Event

Riot police clashed with a group of youths gathered in the Argenteuil suburb of Paris in the early hours of Monday morning (local time), May 18. According to reports, the individuals gathered around a housing estate in the suburb, following the death of a young man in a motorcycle accident which occurred on Sunday evening, May 17. Local reports suggest that the young man collided with a police car and that some of the community blamed the police force. The youths had congregated despite the current restrictions on public gatherings in place amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and they set off fireworks and set alight bins. Riot police responded firing tear gas at them.

Similar clashes cannot be ruled out in the near term.
