Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) soldiers killed at least four people and wounded eight others during a land dispute in the Nwoya district (Northern Region) on Thursday, May 21. The soldiers had reportedly tried to violently disperse residents, accusing them of illegally occupying the disputed land. Residents mobilized and attacked the soldiers, who then opened fire.
Heightened security measures are to be expected in the area over the near term.
Individuals in the Nwoya district are advised to monitor developments in the situation and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
