Russian police arrested at least 35 people in Moscow and St. Petersburg on Friday, May 29, during demonstrations over police corruption and arrest of Russian journalist Ilya Azar. The demonstrations took place outside the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Petrovka 38) in Moscow, as well as on Gostiny Dvor in St. Petersburg. Protests remain banned in Moscow due to quarantine rules imposed over the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
Further protests are possible over the issue in the near term as activists have vowed to continue demonstrating to show support for Azar.
Individuals in the abovementioned areas are advised to monitor developments relating to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
