Civilian casualties reported following IED blast near Hawa Abdi (Lower Shabelle region) on May 31; heightened security presence expected

On Sunday, May 31, an IED blast struck a minibus in the neighborhood of Hawa Abdi (Lower Shabelle region), on the road between Afgoye and Mogadishu, leaving several civilians killed and wounded. Local sources report that about 20 people were traveling on the bus, with unconfirmed social media reports indicating that at least 10 individuals were killed and 13 others wounded. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the area in the near term.
