On Saturday, May 30, riot police dispersed thousands protesting at Place de la République in Paris by using tear gas and charging the crowd. Protesters had gathered in support of the rights of illegal immigrants in France, despite authorities banning the gathering due to current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) measures in place. The protest was part of the wider Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vest) protest movement. Weekly Saturday protests are likely to continue nationwide in the near to medium-term.

Associated business and transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are to be anticipated near all demonstration sites.

Individuals in Paris and across France are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, monitor developments, anticipate transportation and business disruptions near protest sites, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
