Local sources report an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near Yusra Hospital on Airport Road in Kabul's Qalai Narajha area (Police District 11) at 17:20 (local time) on Sunday, May 31. Reports indicate that the blast was targeting an Afghan National Police (ANP) vehicle, and, as a result, at least seven civilians and three ANP members have been wounded. Police have cordoned off the area. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Expect a heightened security presence as the ANP secure the vicinity of the incident. Secondary attacks are possible.
Individuals in Kabul are advised to avoid the area, as secondary devices are often emplaced to target first responders. Individuals should remain vigilant for militant activity, monitor the situation, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
Afghanistan remains a high-risk operational environment and deployments should only be undertaken with the strictest possible security risk management procedures in place. Members should maintain a low profile and use a vetted security provider that offers close protection and emergency response services. Minimize time spent in the vicinity of checkpoints, security forces, and government buildings, as these are among the primary targets for militant attacks.
