Thousands of people attended demonstrations across New Zealand on Monday, June 1, in solidarity with ongoing protests against police violence in the US. At least 500 people also protested in front of the US embassy in Wellington. Smaller demonstrations were held in Christchurch and Dunedin. All the demonstrations remained peaceful and caused only localized disruption, but public health officials raised concerns over the limited adherence to social distancing measures amid the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
