Security forces kill militant in exchange of fire in Rajouri district (Jammu and Kashmir territory) on June 4; further security operations are expected in the near term

Security forces killed a suspected militant in an exchange of fire during an operation in Rajouri district (Jammu and Kashmir territory) on Thursday, June 4. The incident occurred at around 20:15 (local time) in the village of Dharmsal in the Kalakote area of Rajouri district. A cordon and search operation had been launched in the area on Thursday morning after receiving information regarding the presence of militants. As of Thursday evening, two or three more militants were believed to still be trapped in the area.

Further security operations and clashes with militants are possible over the near term.


Individuals in Jammu and Kashmir territory are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments. Some foreign governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the Line of Control (LoC), due to the significant risk of violence.
