Protesters clashed with police in Guadalajara (Jalisco state) on Thursday, June 4, over the police-related death of Giovanni López. Hundreds of protesters gathered in the vicinity of Parque Rojo at 17:00 (local time) before proceeding to the Government Palace, where some demonstrators reportedly began to the vandalize the building. During subsequent clashes with police, a group of protesters set fire to two police vehicles and broke down the door of the Palace, prompting security forces to fire tear gas to disperse crowds. López died in police custody following his arrest on Monday, May 4, in Ixtlahuacán de Los Membrillos (Jalisco state). Further protests are planned in Guadalajara on Friday, June 5.
