Brazil News Alert

Nationwide demonstrations planned on June 7 to protest against racism, fascism, and President Jair Bolsonaro; heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions expected

TIMEFRAME expected from 6/7/2020, 12:00 AM until 6/9/2020, 11:59 PM (Brazil/DeNoronha). COUNTRY/REGION Brasília, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro

Activists have called on supporters nationwide to demonstrate on Sunday, June 7, to protest against racism, fascism, and President Jair Bolsonaro. Protesters will gather on Largo da Batata in São Paulo from 14:00 (local time), in Rio de Janeiro at the Palmares Monument from 15:00, and at the Cultural Complex of the Republic in Brasilia at 09:00. Other protest locations and times were not immediately announced, but similar demonstrations are expected to take place in urban centers nationwide.

A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions, such as road closures and traffic delays, are likely around demonstrations. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Individuals in Brazil, particularly in urban centers, are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate localized disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
