Fighting between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) and the Patriotic and Integrationist Force of Congo (FPIC) militants resulted in the death of at least 13 militants in Irumu territory (Ituri province) on Sunday, June 7, and Monday, June 8. According to media sources, the fighting occurred in the village of Chini ya Kilima after FARDC launched an offensive against an FPIC base in the area. The Congolese army reported that they had gained control of the areas where the fighting took place and recovered weapons following their operations.
Similar militant attacks and security operations are possible in the region over the near term.
The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the region.
Individuals in Ituri province are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity, monitor developments to the situation, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
