Heavy rainfall on the morning of Tuesday, June 9, led to widespread flooding in the Ghanaian capital, Accra. The flooding caused significant damage across much of the city, with the Ordonaa, Adabraka, and Circle areas particularly affected. Hundreds of residents are reported to have been displaced by the deluge. The Ghanaian military has been deployed amid ongoing recovery efforts. Reports indicate that at least one person was killed, with more than 20 others needing to be rescued.

Disruption to power and travel is likely in the near term.


Those in Accra are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate continuing disruptions, and never drive or walk through flooded streets. Floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products and present residual health hazards.
