Authorities have ordered residents in some areas of the Catalina Foothills (Arizona state) in Pima county to evacuate due to the spread of the Bighorn wildfire on Thursday, June 11. Current evacuation orders are in place between Alvernon Way and First Avenue to the north of Ina Road. Authorities also advised residents in other parts of the Catalina Foothills to be ready to evacuate as necessary. As of Thursday, the Bighorn Fire, which has been ongoing since Friday, June 5, has burned an area of 4,769 acres (1930 hectares) and is currently ten percent contained. Emergency response operations are ongoing.
Further spread of the fire is possible in the coming days. An emergency response presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the affected areas.
Individuals in the vicinity of Pima county are advised to monitor the situation, avoid the area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
