France News Alert

Paris clash with Fête de la Musique festival goers in Paris and Nantes on June 21; avoid all large gatherings as a precaution

TIMEFRAME expected from 6/22/2020, 12:00 AM until 6/24/2020, 11:59 PM (Europe/Paris). COUNTRY/REGION Paris, Nantes (Pays de la Loire region), France

Police clashed with Fête de la Musique festival goers in Paris and Nantes on Sunday, June 21. Along a stretch of Paris' Canal St Martin, police were forced to intervene as social distancing measures in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were not being adhered to. In Nantes, police reportedly dispersed gatherings using tear gas. The Fête de la Musique event in Nantes also coincided with a demonstration to mark the anniversary of the death of Steve Canico, who died after a clash between police and revellers in June 2019.

Further unrest is possible over the near term, along with a heightened security presence.

Individuals in France are advised to monitor developments, avoid the affected area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
