Fighting between Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) soldiers and Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO) militants resulted in at least 11 killed in Djugu territory (Ituri province) on Tuesday, June 23. According to media sources, the fighting took place in the Gobuji and Dyaro villages, with reports of eight militants killed as a result. The Congolese army reported that they had lost three soldiers in the clashes.
Similar militant attacks and security operations are possible in the region over the near term.
The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the region.
Individuals in Ituri province are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity, monitor developments to the situation, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
