Afghanistan News Alert

Anti-corruption activists stage protest in Kabul’s Police District 4 on June 25; avoid all demonstrations

TIMEFRAME expected from 6/25/2020, 12:00 AM until 6/26/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Kabul). COUNTRY/REGION Kabul

Around 100 anti-corruption protesters staged a demonstration in Kabul's Police District 4 (PD4) on Thursday, June 25, in protest at the alleged smuggling of government-purchased ventilators into Pakistan. The demonstration in Shahr-e Now Park began at around 11:00 (local time), with police on scene to provide security and monitor the protest. However, the gathering is currently believed to have remained peaceful.

Localized disruptions are likely in the vicinity of Shahr-e Now Park in the near term.

Those in Kabul are advised to avoid the area around the Shahr-e Now Park due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, incidental violence, and crowd dispersal operations by security forces. Travelers should monitor developments and heed any directives issued by local authorities and their home governments.

The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
