Militants clash with security forces in Anantnag and Pulwama districts (Jammu and Kashmir territory) on June 26; further security operations possible in the near term

Event

Militants clashed with security forces in Anantnag and Pulwama districts (Jammu and Kashmir territory) on Friday, June 26. In Anantnag district, gunmen fired on security forces in the Bijbehara area, resulting in the deaths of a civilian and a soldier. The area continues to be subject to a cordon. Meanwhile, security forces killed three militants in Chew Ullar in the Tral area of Pulwama district in fighting which initially broke out on Thursday, June 25, and resumed on Friday. Security forces recovered weapons and ammunition from the site of the clashes.

Further security operations and clashes between security forces and militants across Jammu and Kashmir territory are expected over the near term.
