Several protests have been planned in central London on Saturday, June 27. A Black Lives Matter protest calling for justice for Shukri Abdi, a 12-year-old girl who drowned in Greater Manchester on June 27 2019, will be held. Participants are expected to gather at 13:00 (local time) in Hyde Park and march towards the Department of Education on Great Smith Street, Westminster. A second demonstration is anticipated with supporters of the Black Trans Lives Matter protest expected to congregate at Wellington Arch from 14:00 and march to Downing Street.
Associated overland disruptions and a heightened security presence are to be anticipated in the vicinity of the protests. Additional associated demonstrations cannot be ruled out.
Demonstrations have been held across the UK in recent weeks in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and related issues. Counter-protests by far-right groups have also been organised in major cities. The demonstrations have remained largely peaceful but several have seen scuffles between rival groups and police, including in central London on June 13.
Individuals in London are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
