One person killed in shooting at protest site in Louisville (Kentucky state) on June 27; avoid area

One person was killed and one other was wounded following a shooting at Jefferson Square Park, the site of recent protest activity, in Louisville (Kentucky state) at approximately 21:00 (local time) on Saturday, June 27. Protesters linked to the Black Lives Matter movement had gathered in the area earlier on Saturday and although police ordered them to disperse, it is unclear if the demonstration was ongoing when the incident took place. Police have responded to the scene and are conducting investigations into the incident; however, police have not yet made any arrests.

A heightened police presence in the area, and localized traffic disruptions, are likely in the near term.


Individuals are advised to avoid the vicinity of the incident, maintain vigilance, and adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities.
