TIMEFRAME expected from 7/1/2020, 12:00 AM until 7/4/2020, 11:59 PM (Europe/Paris). COUNTRY/REGION France

Event

On Tuesday, June 30, healthcare workers in France staged nationwide protests, demanding an increase in wages and budgets in the healthcare system. More than 250 demonstrations were reported in the vicinity of local hospitals or regional health authority buildings, with the largest protests taking place in Paris, Toulouse, Lyon, Nantes, and Bordeaux. The protests are a continuation of a year-long dispute over pay, with weeks of talks between the government and workers over spending increases expected to end on Friday, July 3. France's healthcare workers are amongst the lowest paid of all OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries.

Further protests are likely in the near term, with a heightened security presence and associated transport disruptions to be expected.

Advice

Individuals in France are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
