Several activist groups have called for anti-racism protests in central Glasgow on Wednesday, July 1, to demonstrate against the living conditions of refugees and asylum seekers during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) related lockdown. The main demonstration is being organized by the anti-racism group Stand up to Racism from 18:00 (local time) outside the Home Office on Brand Street.

Associated travel disruptions and a heightened security presence are to be anticipated in the vicinity of the protests. Additional associated demonstrations cannot be ruled out.

Demonstrations have been held across the UK in recent weeks in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and related issues. Counter-protests by far-right groups have also been organized in major cities. The demonstrations have remained largely peaceful, but several have seen scuffles between rival groups and police.

Those in Glasgow are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
